Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Arc of Oconee County and Our Place to improve public understanding of the intellectually and developmentally disabled. We strive to provide I/DD citizens with opportunities that enhance and strengthen independence.

Our Place: One of the programs under the umbrella of the Arc Of Oconee County is dedicated to serving adults with Intellectual and Developmental disabilities. Our participants enjoy various activities 2 days a week. Some of the activities include: bowling, arts and crafts, small group games, nutrition study, exercise and healthy living, community events, service projects, independent living skills, line dance lessons, Monthly birthday celebrations, visits from the bookmobile, and Good News Club. We strive to provide our clients with opportunities and skills that enhance and strengthen independence.

SPOTLIGHT Client of the Week will feature a new client each week and is a way to get to know more about the individuals in the Special Needs Community that we serve at Our Place (ARC of Oconee County.) This weeks spotlight client is Hank.

Here’s a short biography about Hank. Hank is our oldest Arc ( Our Place) participant.  We recently celebrated his 76th birthday!  Hank has retired from the Tribble Center and now resides at Belvedere Commons assisted living facility.  Hank attends Seneca Baptist Church.  He looks forward to Seneca High football games each fall.  He is also a Green Bay Packers and Clemson Tigers football fan.  Go Tigers and go Hank!!        🏈

Hank was recently interviewed during one of our gatherings at Our Place. Hank was asked what his favorite activity is at Our Place and what his hobbies are. Below find Hanks answers.

“I come every Tuesday. I learn about healthy food and exercise. I meet new friends.”

What is your favorite craft?

”My favorite activity is doing crafts at Our Place. I like to draw and make things.”

What are some of your favorite hobbies?

”I enjoy going to football games and listening to concerts at Clemson in my spare time. When I go to concerts most of the time I go to Brooks Center at Clemson University.”
