A new endeavor for the Arc of Oconee County is Our Place, located at 295 Market Street, Seneca, SC.   Our Place is just as its name states:  it is a place, a physical location, dedicated to serving the disabled with care while providing supervised activities. Our Place is designed to benefit both the adult with I/DD and that person’s daily care provider.  The program at Our Place includes the following:

·       Bowling

·       Nutrition

·       Exercise and healthy living

·       Art activities

·       Woodworking

·       Community events

·       Dining out

·       Independent living skills

·       Reading tutors

Our Place participants partner with organizations that allow them to “give back” to the community.  Participants work with Morningside Assisted Living Residents, create items to be sold for Hospice of the Foothills fundraiser.  Recently Our Place participants made 48 gift bags for students at the Tamassee DAR School and filled Valentine’s tins for Tribble Center clients.

The Arc of Oconee County is excited as we grow and diversify to better serve our special needs population.  Future projects:

·       Partner with Aldersgate Special Needs Ministry to build a home for Oconee special needs adults

·       Partner with Hamilton Career Center to expand gardening properties which will provide locally grown produce for Considerate Cafe

·       Create after school program for middle and high school special needs students

·        Provide informational classes for care providers

·       Establish a respite house for I/DD individuals
